Lake Manyara National Park covers approximately 330 square kilometers, with nearly two-thirds of the park occupied by the shallow alkaline lake itself. The park stretches along the dramatic cliffs of the Great Rift Valley, creating spectacular views and unique ecological conditions that support a wide range of wildlife and vegetation.

The park is famous for its diverse habitats, which include dense groundwater forests, acacia woodlands, open floodplains, grassy plains, marshes, and hot springs. Lake Manyara itself attracts thousands of flamingos and other water birds during certain seasons, creating spectacular pink-colored shorelines. The park is considered one of Tanzania’s best birdwatching destinations, with over 400 recorded bird species. Visitors may spot pelicans, storks, herons, hornbills, kingfishers, cormorants, fish eagles, and many migratory species throughout the year.

At the southern end of the park lies the famous Maji Moto hot springs, where underground geothermal activity creates bubbling hot water emerging from the earth. The surrounding area provides beautiful scenery and excellent opportunities for photography.

The park’s location along the Great Rift Valley escarpment creates dramatic panoramic views and stunning landscapes that change throughout the seasons. During the wet season, the park becomes lush and green, while the dry season provides excellent wildlife viewing as animals gather near water sources.
