Day by day itinerary

Day 1: Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Batwa Cultural Experience

Your adventure begins upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, where your Afromasai safari guide will warmly welcome you to Uganda.

After a short briefing, begin the scenic journey towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, travelling through Uganda’s beautiful countryside.

Although this is a long drive of approximately 7–9 hours, the changing scenery makes the journey an experience in itself. Pass through lively towns, tropical forests, open savannah and the spectacular terraced hills of southwestern Uganda, often referred to as the Switzerland of East Africa.

Enjoy a lunch stop along the way before continuing towards Bwindi.

Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and take some time to relax before visiting the Batwa community.

During the Batwa cultural experience, learn about the traditions, forest knowledge and history of the Batwa people, who lived in the forests of this region for generations. Through storytelling, demonstrations and cultural activities, gain a deeper understanding of their relationship with the forest and the changes they have experienced over time.

Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and a restful night, preparing for tomorrow’s unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure.

Accommodation & meals: Rushaga Gorilla Lodge. Lunch and dinner.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Canoe Ride on Lake Bunyonyi

Today brings the highlight of your Ugandan adventure: meeting endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will learn about gorilla trekking guidelines and the importance of protecting these gentle giants.

Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, begin your trek into the dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family.

The trek can take anywhere from a few hours to most of the morning, depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain. The forest trails can be steep, muddy and physically demanding, but the beauty of Bwindi’s ancient rainforest makes every step worthwhile.

When you finally encounter the gorillas, spend up to one unforgettable hour observing their behaviour.

Watch young gorillas playing among the vegetation, mothers caring for their infants and the dominant silverback keeping a watchful eye over his family. Seeing these magnificent animals at close range is a deeply moving experience and a memory that will stay with you long after your journey ends.

After the trek, return to the lodge area for lunch before continuing to Lake Bunyonyi.

Surrounded by lush, terraced hills and dotted with beautiful islands, Lake Bunyonyi offers a peaceful contrast to the excitement of the forest.

Enjoy a relaxing canoe ride across the lake, taking in the scenery and learning about the local communities living along its shores.

Later, arrive at your lakeside lodge and enjoy a quiet evening overlooking the water.

Accommodation & meals: Itambira Island Resort. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3: Lake Bunyonyi to Entebbe – Equator Crossing & Departure

Wake up to the peaceful beauty of Lake Bunyonyi and enjoy breakfast overlooking the water.

After breakfast, begin the journey back towards Entebbe, travelling through Uganda’s scenic countryside.

Along the way, stop in the town of Mbarara for lunch before continuing towards Kayabwe, where you will visit the Uganda Equator landmark.

Take photographs at the point where the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet, enjoy a simple demonstration of the equatorial phenomenon and browse local craft shops for souvenirs.

Continue to Entebbe, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.

Your guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight, bringing your memorable Ugandan adventure to an end.

As you depart, take with you the unforgettable experience of meeting mountain gorillas in the wild, discovering the traditions of the Batwa community and enjoying the peaceful beauty of Lake Bunyonyi.

Accommodation & meals: Accommodation not included. Breakfast and lunch.

Important: The drive from Lake Bunyonyi to Entebbe is long and may take approximately 8–10 hours, depending on road and traffic conditions. We recommend booking an evening flight departing late at night or adding an overnight stay in Entebbe for a more comfortable departure.
